Three months since war broke out between Russia and Georgia, thousands of people face a difficult winter. The ICRC has been helping the most vulnerable including the displaced, dispersed families and the elderly.

Georgia/South Ossetia: remote areas lack food, proper access to health care
In an effort to assess the overall humanitarian situation in rural South Ossetia and to provide assistance, the ICRC recently visited the Akhalgori/Leningori area, mostly populated by ethnic Georgians, and Ossetian villages such as Khetagurovo, Avnevi, Khodabula and Didi Tskhiata.

Nearly two months after the beginning of the conflict that displaced thousands, people have begun to return to villages north of Gori. The ICRC continues to distribute food and household items to those most in need and inform the population about mines and unexploded ordnance.
