31-12-2001 International Review of the Red Cross No. 844, p. 1127-1150 Humanitarian activities of the German Red Cross in the Balkans – An evaluation ![]() Abstract This article is based on a study commissioned by the German Red Cross of its work in the Balkans. After outlining the methods used, the authors analyse the context in which the German Red Cross deployed its activities in aid of the populations of the region’s various countries. An in-depth examination is made of cooperation with the other National Societies, followed by concrete proposals for stronger links between the region’s respective Red Cross Societies and a National Society from outside. The authors place particular emphasis on the need to improve the capacity, both of participating National Societies and of those in the recipient countries, to plan, organize and manage humanitarian operations. |
