| Section The ICRC in China Regional delegation in Beijing In July 2005 the ICRC opened a regional delegation in Beijing, following the signing of an agreement with the authorities of the People's Republic of China. China was previously covered from the ICRC's regional delegation in Bangkok. The new delegation also covers the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea and Mongolia. The ICRC’s main activities in the region are the promotion and implementation of international humanitarian law (IHL) and cooperation with national Red Cross societies. This includes helping the two Red Cross societies on the Korean peninsula to improve the situation of families separated since the Korean War. The ICRC also runs limb-fitting centres in China's Yunnan Province and in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The organization also has a Chinese-language website (www.icrc.org/chi) and produces Chinese-langauge publications to foster interest in and understanding of humanitarian issues and IHL amongst Chinese-speakers worldwide. The centre opened in early 2004 and began to expand its follow-up services in 2005 with the opening of two repair workshops in the south of the province. Since its opening the centre has provided orthopaedic and physiotherapy care for 850 amputees.
