West Bank: the shrinking world of the Bedouins
Drought, harsh climate and restrictions on movement have a devastating effect on Bedouins. In these photos, pastoralists ponder their future as they struggle to find pasture and water for their sheep. The ICRC provides emergency water supplies to the worst-hit areas.

The Jordan Valley and the eastern parts of Bethlehem and Hebron districts bordering the Dead Sea used to be the main grazing areas and the lifeline of the Bedouins.

After three successive years of drought and a very cold winter, Bedouins and herder communities living in the occupied West Bank are on the brink of an emergency.

Because of acute water shortages, Borhan Bsharat's sheep find less grass on the grazing lands near Al Hadidiya, a village in the Jordan Valley.
